professional bio
Born in Kansas City and raised in Los Angeles, Martyn Collins brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to our workers' compensation defense team. Mr. Collins earned his Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1992 and graduated from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1995. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1997.
Mr. Collins has practiced workers' compensation law since 2019. Having spent his first four years as applicants' counsel, he possesses a unique vantage point that he now utilizes to aggressively investigate cases and uncover critical evidence to limit client exposure. His professional background also includes experience as a GE Long Term Care analyst and in general litigation, providing him with an analytical, insurance-informed approach to claims management.
As a defense attorney, Mr. Collins is recognized for his meticulous investigative skills and his track record of uncovering non-disclosures that shift case dynamics in favor of the defense. His strategic philosophy focuses on seizing the initiative through thorough factual investigation and targeted medical-legal development to achieve prompt, cost-effective resolutions.
Mr. Collins has extensive experience managing complex multi-claim litigation involving overlapping injuries and multiple employers. He is particularly skilled in developing QME and PQME advocacy strategies, challenging deficient medical-legal reporting, and identifying apportionment opportunities to non-industrial factors.
Outside of his professional life, Mr. Collins advocates for youth mentoring with the OK Program of Oakland. He has two children: his son, Karl, a recent graduate and former tennis team captain at the University of Hawaii, and his daughter, Ivy, who studies Business and Spanish at Napa Valley College.
