professional bio
Mia Richey aggressively defends employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators in complex workers’ compensation matters. With over 30 years of legal experience, she is known for developing aggressive, effective strategies that resolve claims efficiently. Her track record of cost-effective results is reflected in frequent client requests for her direct representation on their files.
Before focusing exclusively on workers' compensation defense, Ms. Richey built a diverse civil litigation practice in San Diego. Her extensive background spans real estate, personal injury, and construction defect defense. She previously served on the legal team at a prominent law firm, where she notably represented an insurance carrier and defended a general contractor in a $60 million lawsuit.
This broad foundation in civil litigation, contract negotiation, and employment law equips her to expertly navigate every phase of a workers' compensation claim. She routinely drafts highly technical Compromises & Releases, Stipulations, Petitions for Reconsideration, and Writs.
Ms. Richey earned her B.A. from DePaul University and her J.D. from Creighton University School of Law. Her professional perspective is distinctly shaped by international academic programs in Madrid, Mexico City, and Budapest.
Outside the office, Ms. Richey is a proud mother of two grown children and a lifelong equestrian who participates in hunts and arena polo. She is a dedicated enthusiast of the modern Siamese cat breed and remains highly active in her community through local outreach and ministry programs.
