professional bio
Phillip Charles’ background includes a highly refined skill set in the taking and defending of depositions. Viewing depositions as the most important discovery tool, he takes every opportunity to make them as valuable to his clients as possible. This often includes successful efforts to use them as a venue to fully resolve the case via Compromise and Release. He finds this strategy to be the best way to attain a client’s primary objective: achieving an expeditious and economical resolution. He believes that “a closed file is a happy file”.
Additional experience prior to joining Bradford & Barthel includes working as a law clerk in Prince George’s County, Maryland with the Department of Veteran Affairs. Thereafter, Phillip relocated to California where he spent many years drafting and negotiating television agreements in business and legal affairs with networks such as The Walt Disney Company - National Geographic, Warner Bros. Discovery, and various production companies. The attention to detail necessary for this work prepared him well for drafting Workers' Compensation documents.
Mr. Charles earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Maryland, Francis King Carey School of Law after obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Clark Atlanta University. He has also been awarded the highly prized Entertainment Studies certificate from UCLA.
Outside of work, Mr. Charles enjoys sports, listening to new music, learning Spanish, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.
