Although her practice is limited to the defense of workers’ compensation matters, Rosa Bugarin's talents have also been sharpened by her background at prominent and respected Southern California defense, personal injury and employment law firms. It was in these venues that she focused on general litigation, insurance defense, premise liability, public entity defense, and employment law matters. Ms. Bugarin was also a Labor Relations and Employment Department Associate for a California public entity where she conducted workplace investigations, interactive process procedures, advised management on employee relations matters and policies and procedures, and collective bargaining agreement negotiations.
Ms. Bugarin has represented Fortune 500 companies, public entities, and individuals pursuing claims.
The foregoing gives Ms. Bugarin a unique perspective regarding aggressive litigation of high stakes matters and provides a distinct advantage at the WCAB.
While in law school, Ms. Bugarin interned for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office in their Preliminary Hearing Unit and Environmental Crimes/OSHA section where she conducted preliminary hearings as a certified law clerk, and assisted in matters involving toxic torts, environmental law violations, and workplace violations resulting in injuries. She also interned at an organization that focused on matters pertaining to toxic substance exposure and remediation.
Ms. Bugarin’s educational background has prepared her to go toe to toe with physicians, whether it involves directing doctors to write favorable reports or subjecting them to an aggressive deposition. For example, her scientific background includes a Bachelor of Science in Biology, working as a chemist in a global pharmaceutical company, and conducting scientific research for two years as a National Science Foundation (NSF) research fellow developing cost-effective environmental methodology. Clearly, quantitative and qualitative science knowledge have complimented her law career, especially in matters involving medical and scientific analysis, on a regular basis.
Ms. Bugarin is fluent in Spanish and was raised in Southern California. In her leisure time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, cooking, keeping up with science and technology advances, and activities involving nature and the outdoors, including hiking.
