In many claims state public entities such as Medi-Cal, EDD, and Department of Child Support Services have overlapping obligations. These obligations are provided extraordinary reimbursement rights and consideration beyond standard liens against compensation filed by private entities. This training explores statutory obligations, and considerations when negotiating settlements, to ensure any actual accrued public entity obligations are contemplated in settlement, non-accrued public entity obligations are identified and affirmatively recognized, and in avoidance of unnecessary subsequent litigation or imposition of penalties.
