The Law Offices of Bradford and Barthel announced that partners Fariba Jafary and Rosa Sanchez-Ervin have been promoted to two positions that will encourage and support diversity in the workers’ compensation community.
Ms. Jafary will be the firm’s new chief diversity officer, where she will continue to oversee hiring, training, and development. Ms. Sanchez-Ervin is the firm’s new director of diversity and inclusion, where she will assist Jafary with creating an inclusive environment through mentoring and training.
Tahmeena Ahmed, executive managing partner of client relations for the firm, said “Both Fariba and Rosa are well-suited for these roles, and they will continue to promote the firm’s values. We owe it to our society to do what we can to foster a stronger commitment to our communities.”
Bradford and Barthel first created the chief diversity officer role in June, in an effort to continue its efforts toward innovation through greater diversity and inclusion. The firm hopes to achieve this through diversity-friendly hiring practices, training, and human resource policies. One of the first goals for the firm will be to create a diversity committee that will brainstorm ideas and strategies to celebrate diversity and inclusion.
Jafary has already played a key role in the firm’s personnel department, as she is currently serving as the firm’s managing partner for recruitment, hiring and development. This role had her collaborating with managing partners, managing attorneys, and human resources. As a result, she has a plethora of experience in recruitment, as well as policies and procedures to promote diversity.
“I am honored to have this new role, and I look forward to bringing in new talent for our firm hand-in-hand with more diversity and culture,” Jafary said.
“At B&B we have a culture that is inclusive of everyone and everyone who works at B&B has the opportunity to succeed and grow,” Sanchez-Ervin said. “I want to continue to facilitate this culture in our workplace as I believe that our strengths lie in our differences and not in our similarities.”
While Sanchez-Ervin has been a partner at the firm’s Ontario office for years and logged important wins for the firm’s clients, she also has been voluntarily mentoring local law students in her spare time. The firm’s management was impressed by Sanchez-Ervin’s efforts, and immediately offered her the role of director of diversity and inclusion.
The role of chief diversity officer opened up after Farai Alves, the firm’s first chief diversity officer, departed to become a workers’ compensation judge at the San Francisco Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board.
“Farai Alves has been a valued partner and respected member of the B&B family for a long time,” said statewide executive managing partner Mark Fletcher. “She has been integral in the success of B&B and will be sorely missed. She combines her strong legal and management skills with her unimpeachable character. When you add on top her ability to listen and bring people together you have a recipe for success. She will be a great judge.”
Jafary graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History with a minor in Social Ecology. She earned her Juris Doctorate from John F. Kennedy University in 1997.
Sanchez-Ervin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of La Verne, with honors. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Whittier Law School in 2000.
